Thoughts From Slutty Places

I've never really had a good place to share my thoughts/questions about rape. So why not here? Any answers/discussion would be helpful. Is "non forcible rape" just if the person cannot give consent because they are passed out or under age?

I've heard two teenage girls talk in a nonchalant manner about being forced to have sex. They used words like "He made me" and "I had no choice" but they still called it sex and not rape. I want to know why they would rather identify what happened to them as sex. Maybe they think it's only rape if you don't know the aggressor?

My friend went for a walk in a park on a blind date with a guy and he kept trying to kiss her. And she kept pulling away and trying to put distance between them/get the hell back to her car without flat out running. He just wasn't getting her signals. This wasn't a violent crime, but it's like he didn't understand that he had to make sure she was comfortable. Like he didn't even realize she was a whole person, who has her own thoughts and desires.

Are these guys crazy? Is the environment teaching males to behave this way? Does porn play a role in rape culture?

There's one here in San Diego a month from now. I'm debating whether or not I want to check it out, but I don't really have anyone who would go with me.

I have several thoughts about Stephanie's post, but I have to organize them first.
